Turnings
These crisp, well proportioned chair turnings are riven (split) from a hard maple log and hand turned when still green. Hand turned parts are sharp, well defined and have fine details that a duplicating lathe cannot match. Hard maple is extremely strong and holds a sharp edge - riving ensures straight grain for strength. Six degree tapers are standard on leg and arm stump tenons, though eleven degree tenons are available. I also do custom turning and am happy to modify my parts to match your needs. Stretchers $9 Note: All tenons are left oversized for you to finish to your specifications. Green Oak Rivings
An important, but tricky step in making a chair is getting good wood. These blanks are riven (split) from an oak log to ensure straight grained, knot free chair parts. All blanks are made to order - the following list gives prices for some basic sizes. When ordering backs and crests specify ALL THREE finished dimensions. 12" Spindle - $1.00 Note: There will be a packing fee seperate from the shipping fee
for wood orders. Turning Blanks
Approximately 2" in diameter and 18" long, these cylinders were rejected due to knots, grain runout and curly grain. Mostly red maple with some hickory, they were all riven from a log, roughed out on the lathe, then air dried. They not as bad as they sound and they are probably equal to most dowel stock. They would be great for practicing your turning or making any number of small turning projects, and they are priced so you can't afford not to buy them. I have about forty and a discount is available if you buy me out. Cylinders are $3 each
